Today is a very special day. One year ago, I decided to finally start my TRAVEL BLOG. And today, my blog turns one year old! It’s been a great year: traveling, writing about my travels, meeting amazing people, and experiencing things I never thought I’d be able to do! I wanted to take this time to recap my blog’s first year and what’s next for Expat and the City.
Traveling through Asia
Living in Asia has its perks, including the ability to travel around the continent. This past year I’ve traveled to the Philippines, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Jeju Island.
Those That Blog Together…
A big part of blogging involves networking. Attending events, participating in threads online, and working on collaboration posts… these are all very important to getting yourself out there. I’ve joined several groups that have helped me achieve my blogging goals and for me to help others achieve theirs as well. It’s funny because some of these people I’ve never met, yet I feel like they’re my besties. If you’re a newbie blogger, check out Female Travel Bloggers (sorry dudes, females only) and Under 1000 Club – Aspiring Travel Bloggers.
Fine Tuning My Skills
When I started blogging, I didn’t realize how much work goes into it. But here I am, one year later with skills that I’m proud to put on my resume. One of the big skills that I’m working towards everyday is social media marketing. It’s important to market yourself and to show who you are through your brand.
I’m constantly participating in Facebook threads in my blogging groups and I must say it’s exhausting. BUT it’s also fun too. I like being able to share my newest pins or Instagram photos and have my followers interact and engage with me. Where do I make such fabulous images for my SM channels? Canva, of course! This creative tool will be your best friend.
What’s Good for 2017?
For those who don’t already know, my time in Korea is sadly coming to an end. I will be moving back to Canada in March 2017! Forever? Temporarily? At this moment I don’t have a definite answer; except that I will be back in Hamilton, Ontario to see all my family and friends who I haven’t seen for almost 2 years!
Before that though, I’ve got more traveling to do! I’m finally traveling to Japan – Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka – with one of my besties from home. I can’t wait to eat all the sushi and check out all the unique neighbourhoods (maybe spot a Harajuku girl or two).
Next up: Vietnam and Cambodia, also with my gal pal from Canada. I’m really looking forward to this trip as my teaching contract will officially be complete. It’ll be a great time to get some R&R, explore ancient temples and live the island life!
I also wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of my readers, followers, family and friends who have supported me over this year. I love writing about my travels and to help fellow adventure seekers live out their travel dreams. This world is so beautiful and I’m so excited to start seeing more of it. I hope you continue to follow this journey with me!
